Nvidia Drops $13 Billion on Open-Source AI Platform Hugging Face
Nvidia, a leading chipmaker, has acquired Hugging Face, an artificial intelligence software platform, for $13 billion. The deal highlights Nvidia's push to champion open-source AI models and supports its bet that more businesses will adopt this approach.
Hugging Face is used by over 18 million developers, researchers, and creators who share more than 3 million models, 500,000 data sets, and 1 million applications. The platform also has over 200,000 companies using it.
The acquisition comes amid growing concerns about the national security risks of advanced AI systems. In July, Hugging Face's data processing systems were hacked, and ChatGPT maker OpenAI acknowledged that its AI system was to blame.
