Nvidia Drops $3.5 Billion on MediaTek in Computing Ecosystem Play
Nvidia has invested $3.5 billion in MediaTek convertible bonds, expanding their partnership and cementing Nvidia's position in the computing ecosystem it helped create.
The investment, worth roughly 3.6% of Nvidia's latest quarterly sales, signals a serious commitment from the artificial-intelligence chip powerhouse. The company can comfortably absorb this amount, considering its recent revenue generation of $96.2 billion in the second quarter.
Under their expanded partnership, MediaTek will use NVLink Fusion to connect customers' custom processors with Nvidia's rack-scale systems. They will also push deeper into RTX Spark and DGX Spark chips while building additional automotive-computing platforms.
