Nvidia Drops $3B On SB Energy Amid AI Infrastructure Push
Nvidia is expanding its reach in the AI ecosystem by investing $3 billion in SB Energy, a data center developer that's filed for an initial public offering. This investment comes on top of Nvidia's previous commitment to SB Energy, which was made in August through a prepaid forward contract worth $1.5 billion.
Nvidia has also provided residual-value guarantees covering approximately 4.25 gigawatts of initial capacity at the PORTS-Pike Technology Campus in Ohio, with an aggregate guaranteed value of $105 billion. This campus is intended to host OpenAI's AI computing capacity, and Nvidia is a strategic investor and residual-value guarantor for the project.
This investment is part of Nvidia's broader push into the AI infrastructure space, which includes its recent acquisition of Hugging Face for $12.9 billion and a $3.5 billion investment in MediaTek through convertible bonds and collaboration on custom AI chips.
