Nvidia Eyes Giant Stake in Anthropic's Record-Breaking IPO Bid
Anthropic, an artificial intelligence startup, is in talks to bring Nvidia as an anchor investor into its massive IPO. The listing could be the largest in history, with Anthropic seeking to raise up to $100 billion and valuing itself at around $2 trillion.
Nvidia is considering investing up to $10 billion in the IPO, which would give Anthropic a strategic backer for the oversized offering. Bringing a deep-pocketed anchor investor like Nvidia onboard could boost investor confidence in the listing, which is shaping up to be a major test of public-market appetite for the enormous valuations and capital requirements of frontier AI labs.
Anthropic already has big-name backers, including Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, but this deal would further deepen ties between the chipmaker and one of its major customers. The company relies heavily on Nvidia GPUs and is working to diversify its chip suppliers as demand for Claude has strained its available computing capacity.
The listing, expected to complete before the U.S. midterm elections in November, would mark another jump in Anthropic's valuation. The company raised $65 billion in May at a post-money valuation of $965 billion and has an annualized revenue run rate above $65 billion.
