Nvidia Floods Market with $279 Billion Memory Commitments
Nvidia's massive quarterly earnings report has sent shockwaves through the semiconductor and memory markets. The company's CEO, Jensen Huang, stressed that its growth is limited by memory chips and emphasized the importance of securing memory supply upstream.
The numbers are staggering: Nvidia's purchase commitments tied primarily to memory procurement more than doubled to $279 billion last quarter, underscoring the scramble to lock in supply. This has sent shares of major memory suppliers soaring overnight. Micron (MU) rebounded 14% this month and SanDisk (SNDK) 23%, clawing back some of their steep July losses.
Nvidia's CFO Colette Kress noted that the company continues to make strategic commitments across supply, infrastructure, and partner ecosystems, with $279 billion in planned investments primarily related to memory procurement. This has sent a bullish signal for the memory trade, suggesting memory chip sales could remain elevated for years.
