Nvidia GeForce NOW Exits Beta on Linux, Brings Native App to Ubuntu Users
Nvidia has officially exited beta for its GeForce NOW Linux app, marking a significant milestone in the company's cloud gaming strategy. The move comes seven months after the native app first appeared as a preview build at CES 2026 and is seen as a response to one of the top requests from the PC gaming community.
According to Nvidia's own announcement, the production build focuses on performance, stability, and polish while continuing to support Ubuntu 24.04 and later. The app installs via a self-hosted Flatpak repository, which in practice runs on most modern distributions with Flatpak support.
The native app is considered a significant improvement over running GeForce NOW through a browser tab or an unofficial wrapper, delivering the full feature set Nvidia ships to Windows and macOS users. With the Linux client, gamers can stream supported titles at up to 5K resolution and 120 fps, or up to 1080p at 360 fps for competitive titles.
The GeForce NOW pricing structure remains unchanged, with three tiers available: Free (1 hour), Performance ($9.99/mo, 6 hours), and Ultimate ($19.99/mo, 8 hours). The library itself sits at more than 2,000 games as of August 2026, pulled from various storefronts.
