Nvidia H200 Chips Ship to China Amid Beijing's Chipmaker Support Bid
Nvidia's H200 chips have been shipped to China in small batches, according to a report by the Financial Times. The company has received permission from the US to purchase up to 100,000 H200 chips each, but Chinese regulators want them to keep the hardware outside mainland China.
ByteDance and Tencent have reportedly received around 10,000 H200 processors in recent weeks. Other Chinese technology firms may soon secure similar shipments. However, Beijing wants these companies to use the chips in Hong Kong, which operates outside mainland China's customs border, to support domestic chipmakers.
The report cited two people with knowledge of the matter, but Reuters could not immediately verify it. Nvidia did not respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
