Nvidia Invests $3 Billion in Power Infrastructure Amid AI Boom
Nvidia is investing up to $3 billion in Lancium, a Texas-based power infrastructure developer, as part of its Stargate AI data center project. This investment gives Nvidia a direct stake in the infrastructure needed to power the next wave of artificial intelligence computing.
The move reflects a shift from a chip race to a power, land, and grid connections race, driven by growing pressure on data centers to secure reliable power for increasingly energy-intensive AI systems.
Lancium develops large data center campuses and power infrastructure. Its flagship site is the Lancium Clean Campus in Abilene, Texas, which serves as the first operational site of the Stargate initiative. The campus covers about 1,000 acres and has a 1.2-gigawatt grid interconnection approved by ERCOT.
Nvidia's investment will value Lancium and its land and power assets at around $10 billion. The company could add an additional $1 billion if Lancium meets specific conditions, including securing more grid connections.
