Nvidia Invests $3.5 Billion in Taiwan's MediaTek to Boost Data Center Partnership
Nvidia has invested USD3.5 billion in Taiwanese chip designer MediaTek as part of a deal that expands their partnership beyond smartphones and cars into specialized AI chips for data centers.
The two companies will work together on engineering to build customised AI chips into large Nvidia-based data centres, making it easier for customers to adopt this technology.
Nvidia's investment in MediaTek is a strategic move to strengthen its collaboration with the Taiwanese company, which has been trying to break into the data centre business by helping operators develop customized components.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang described MediaTek as 'one of the world's great semiconductor companies', while MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai said the partnership would span cloud AI infrastructure, local AI computing, and automotive in the era of physical AI.
