The month of August saw significant activity in startup funding, with Y Combinator emerging as the most active investor by deal count. The accelerator participated in at least 18 deals worth $5 million or more, according to Crunchbase data.
General Catalyst led or co-led the most rounds of $5 million or more, totaling five such deals. Its largest was a $1.1 billion Series A for River AI, which provides custom AI fine-tuning for businesses.
Nvidia sharply accelerated its dealmaking pace in August, ranking among the most active and highest-spending investors for the month. The chip giant participated in nine disclosed rounds of at least $5 million, with seven going to companies categorized as AI-focused.
