Sanja Fidler, a University of Toronto associate professor and former director of AI at Nvidia, has left her role as VP of AI research after eight years. In a LinkedIn post, she announced her departure from the world's most valuable company, where she led the development of underlying technologies for simulation in virtual worlds.

Fidler joined Nvidia in 2018 and grew its Toronto AI research lab to over 80 members. She specializes in computer vision and co-founded the Vector Institute to slow Canadian brain drain. Fidler's team at Nvidia achieved multiple research milestones, including demonstrating real-time interactive driving in a fully AI-generated world.

Fidler emphasized that world models are the next breakthrough in AI, where 'the next breakthrough lies, and it is around the corner.' She didn't reveal her next move but expressed excitement for what's to come. Fidler's departure from Nvidia marks a significant loss for the company, which has seen her team make significant contributions to its research.
