Nvidia Manager, Two Super Micro Staff Charged in Taiwan for Illicit AI Server Exports
Taiwanese prosecutors have charged nine individuals for allegedly exporting high-end AI servers to mainland China, including one Nvidia manager and two former Super Micro employees.
The export controls in place since 2022 prohibit the sale of advanced chips to China, but the accused found ways to circumvent these restrictions by creating fake websites and falsifying information.
According to prosecutors, 74 servers were successfully delivered to China, with 50 sent through Indonesia, 16 directly to China, eight to Japan first then Hong Kong before landing in mainland China. Another attempt involving 56 servers failed, and the remaining servers remain in Taiwan.
