Nvidia Partnerships: What Startups Need to Know
Nvidia's partnerships with startups are highly sought after, but getting on the company's radar requires more than just a good product. In an episode of Build Mode, host Isabelle Johannessen sat down with Sydney Sykes, who leads global venture alliances and partnerships at Nvidia, to discuss how startups can enter the Nvidia ecosystem.
Sydney emphasized that strategic fit is key when it comes to corporate venture capital investment, and that founders should focus on building relationships with investors rather than just pitching a product. She also highlighted the importance of cap table design, fundraising expectations, and infrastructure needs in building lasting partnerships.
Nvidia's Inception program allows startups to access the company's AI technology and resources, but Sydney noted that only projects with a clear strategic fit make it through the approval process. Corporate VC investment differs from traditional venture capital in terms of fundraising, due diligence, and deal terms, with a focus on long-term value creation rather than short-term returns.
Sydney also discussed her experience as an investor at NEA and Lightspeed Venture Partners, and how she co-founded Black VC to expand access and education in the VC space. Her advice to founders is to prepare for engagement with corporate VCs by focusing on strategic relevance and infrastructure needs.
