Nvidia Pauses AI Cloud Strategy Amid Antitrust Concerns
Nvidia Corp., the leading chipmaker, is reassessing its ambitious plan to support smaller AI cloud providers. The company has put some acquisitions on hold under a scheme that offers financing assistance in exchange for a share of future revenue.
The program was designed to address a fundamental challenge faced by smaller cloud companies: they require billions of dollars for Nvidia chips and data centers before they can secure enough client contracts to obtain funding. To alleviate this issue, Nvidia offered to rent out excess GPU capacity, providing these companies with an income backstop.
Nvidia has reportedly secured commitments worth around $36 billion under agreements spanning six years. Additionally, in some proposed partnerships, the company could earn 50% of revenue generated above a predetermined base rate.
