Nvidia Pays to Train Plumbers as Data Center Demand Skyrockets
Nvidia has announced its involvement in a nationwide initiative to train skilled tradespeople, including plumbers and electricians. The company is committing significant resources to this effort, which aims to train one million workers by 2030. Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang has stated that AI infrastructure is creating numerous job opportunities across the US and globally. The company's data center revenue surged 105.8% year-over-year to $89.02 billion in Q2 2027. Huang emphasized the importance of securing land, power, and shell for data centers, which often takes two to three years.
Federated Hermes senior portfolio manager Stephen DeNichilo noted that skilled tradespeople are already in high demand, with plumbers and HVAC workers facing a shortage of work. He described this moment as 'a generational opportunity for investment in the US.' Lowe's CEO Marvin Ellison warned of a potential $1 trillion economic loss due to labor shortages.
Despite these concerns, Lowe's stock hit a 52-week low after announcing its involvement in the training initiative alongside Nvidia. This discrepancy raises questions about market expectations and pricing. As Broadcom also highlighted land, power, and shell construction as gating constraints, it remains to be seen how companies will address these bottlenecks.
