Nvidia Prepares to Fund Its Own PAC Amid Data Center Development Hurdles
Nvidia is planning to set up an employee-funded political action committee (PAC) called NVPAC, aiming to shape US policy in its favor. This move comes as companies are increasingly using their funds to influence elections and public opinion.
Many corporations have established PACs to donate to politicians aligned with their interests, with the capital being tax-exempt and used for campaign advertisements and canvassing. Nvidia's decision follows a trend of tech companies becoming more involved in electoral donating and funding, with some notable examples including Meta, Amazon, Google, and Broadcom.
The company has seen significant growth during the AI boom, with its hardware being used across the AI ecosystem. However, plans for data center developments have faced hurdles due to local and national opposition. In Q1 of this year, $130 billion worth of AI data center projects were canceled or delayed due to public opposition.
The Trump administration's policy has emphasized the need for the US to lead in AI at any cost, particularly for reasons of national security. However, this stance is at odds with many of Trump's supporters who are concerned about AI and locally opposed to data centers.
