Taiwan-based IC designer MediaTek Inc. has secured a record-breaking US$3.9 billion in its overseas convertible bond offering, with American AI chip giant Nvidia Corp. leading the investment at US$3.5 billion.

The massive investment comes as part of an expanded partnership between the two companies, which aims to combine Nvidia's expertise in accelerated computing and AI software with MediaTek's strengths in custom chip design and high-performance system-on-chip (SoC) development.

The collaboration will focus on three areas: AI infrastructure, edge AI, and AI-enabled platforms for software-defined vehicles. In AI infrastructure, MediaTek will help customers develop custom AI chips that integrate with Nvidia's rack-scale AI platform.

In edge AI, the companies will continue developing future generations of RTX Spark and DGX Spark chips, combining MediaTek-designed SoCs with Nvidia GPUs for AI-enabled personal computers, developer systems, and enterprise workstations.
