Nvidia Restores Partial China Business with H200 Processor Shipments
Nvidia has started shipping its H200 processors to mainland China, marking an early step in its effort to restore part of its business in the country. According to a Financial Times report, ByteDance and Tencent each received roughly 10,000 chips in recent weeks.
The shipments are possible due to U.S. licenses that allow individual Chinese buyers to purchase up to 100,000 H200 processors. However, Beijing wants most of these chips kept outside mainland China to support local semiconductor producers.
Nvidia has about 500,000 H200 chips available, with much of the inventory intended for Chinese customers. Lenovo and other partners have resumed accepting orders for H200-based systems, subject to approval.
