Nvidia RTX 5090 Skyrockets to $7,500 as Generative AI Demand Soars
The Nvidia RTX 5090 is now selling for an astonishing $7,500 at Best Buy, making it one of the most expensive graphics cards on the market. This price hike is a result of high demand from crypto mining and generative AI applications, which have driven prices to unprecedented levels.
At launch in January 2025, the RTX 5090 had an intended MSRP of $1,999, but it quickly surpassed that mark and has since more than tripled. The current price is a far cry from what gamers and PC builders can afford, with prices like this making it nearly impossible to build a new gaming PC.
Nvidia's 6000 range (codenamed Rubin) is set to replace the 5090, but there has been no official word on when these cards will be available for home desktops. Meanwhile, supplies of the RTX 5090 are scarce due to high demand from AI server warehouses.
