Nvidia Shield TV and Pro Users Report Common Issues with Streaming Devices
The Nvidia Shield TV and Shield TV Pro have been on the market for several years, with the first version released in 2015. Despite their age, these Android-powered streaming devices remain popular among streamers, but they're not without issues.
One common problem users have reported is inconsistent Dolby Vision performance, where movies and TV shows appear too dark or stutter. This issue affects multiple apps, including Kodi and Disney+, and has been addressed in part by Nvidia's 9.2.4 update. However, some users have found that manually assigning resolution and frame rate using a service called tvQuickActions Pro can resolve the issue.
Another problem is HDMI-CEC handshake issues, which can cause devices to randomly power on or off when in sleep mode. The 9.2.4 update also introduced a fix for this issue, but users may need to disable and re-enable CEC on their affected components.
The Nvidia Shield TV Pro's overheating is another concern, particularly if the device is placed in a cramped area with poor airflow. Users can manually adjust the fan speed by going to Settings > Device Preferences > System and selecting Fan Mode.
