Nvidia Slaps On Price Hikes Amid Chip Shortage
Nvidia's AI-related price hikes are on the horizon as the company's biggest customers have been informed that prices for servers containing its artificial intelligence (AI) chips will increase by more than 15 percent in some cases.
The price hikes, which will take effect on systems shipped early next year, will impact systems including those with the flagship Vera Rubin and Grace Blackwell chips. The increases will depend on the generation of Nvidia chips and the memory configurations.
This move reflects the significant leverage that memory chip makers have amid a surge in demand for AI infrastructure. Companies like Samsung Electronics Co, SK Hynix Inc, and Micron Technology Inc account for most of the world's production of DRAM, which is crucial for Nvidia's accelerator processors to function effectively.
