Nvidia Staff Among Nine Charged Over Illicit AI Server Exports to China
Taiwanese prosecutors have charged nine individuals, including one from Nvidia and two from Super Micro, with illegally exporting high-end AI servers to mainland China. The move adds to the ongoing tensions in the AI rivalry between China and the United States.
The charges are related to the export of graphics processing units (GPUs) known as 'B300', which have been banned from sale to China due to strict export controls. Prosecutors claim that 74 servers were successfully delivered to China, with some sent through Indonesia or Japan before landing in mainland China.
One Nvidia manager, identified by his family name as Chang, is accused of authorizing the release of the B300 GPUs and demonstrating a 'poor attitude' after the offense. The maximum five-year sentence is being sought for four of the defendants, including Chang.
