Nvidia Takes $3.5 Billion Stake in MediaTek Amid Push for Interconnect Dominance
Nvidia has announced that it will invest $3.5 billion in MediaTek through convertible bonds. This partnership aims to expand Nvidia's presence in the AI data center market, where MediaTek will adopt NVLink Fusion and NVHBM technology.
The joint product roadmap spans ten years and is expected to bring about a 'tremendous engineering synergy.' Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang emphasized that this collaboration will help hyperscalers integrate custom XPUs into Nvidia's rack-scale AI systems, making it easier for them to adopt interconnect standards.
This move allows Nvidia to remain at the center of the hardware chain through interconnect technology, memory architecture, and system platforms. Even if tech giants like Amazon develop their proprietary AI chips, Nvidia can still maintain its position due to its control over data center standards and complete systems.
