Nvidia Trims OpenAI Data Center Backstop to Under $120 Billion
Nvidia has revised its financial guarantee for OpenAI's massive Ohio data center campus, cutting its commitment to under $120 billion from an earlier $250 billion figure.
The move aims to address investor concerns about Nvidia's risk exposure as it uses its balance sheet to support the buildout of the AI infrastructure project.
The revised structure would see Nvidia initially guarantee only approximately half of the multi-hundred-billion-dollar buildout, rather than the full amount.
Nvidia shares fell 5% when the initial discussions around the $250 billion backstop were reported by the Wall Street Journal. The company's willingness to backstop customer projects with its own balance sheet has raised questions about how far it can go before investors begin to balk.
