Nvidia Turns Rival Into Customer, Bolsters Market Share
Nvidia has found another way to benefit from its $20 billion deal with AI chipmaker Groq, as the company plans to put Nvidia systems in its data centers. This means that customers of Groq's AI cloud service, GroqCloud, can access Nvidia technology alongside Groq's signature language processing units (LPUs). The move is seen by analysts as a strategic approach by Nvidia to fend off competition.
Groq had originally remained independent after the deal and continued operating its AI cloud. However, with this new partnership, it eliminates some of the competition for Nvidia in the market. Brad Gastwirth, global head of research and market intelligence at Circular Technology, said that the move 'potentially neutralized part of a competitive threat while preserving Groq as a growing platform that can now drive additional demand back toward Nvidia.'
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's strategy has been praised by analysts, with Gil Luria, head of technology research at D.A. Davidson, saying that 'They play chess when everybody else is playing checkers.' The move shows how Nvidia is strengthening its position in the market.
