Nvidia Turns Your Gaming PC into Backup AI Power for Mac

Nvidia has released a new tool called PAIR that allows users to pair their gaming PC with an M4 or newer Mac, turning the PC into a backup AI power source for the Mac.

This free, open-source tool is designed to alleviate the problem of local AI tasks competing for processing power on a single machine. PAIR works by sending independent requests from AI agents to different machines on the network, allowing them to run at the same time and reducing processing time significantly.

Nvidia notes that PAIR doesn't combine memory or split models across two machines, but rather routes each request to whichever paired machine has what it needs. The tool uses mDNS for local discovery and MTLS encryption for secure connections between paired machines.
