Nvidia Unleashes $6.5 Billion Photonics Play with Lancium Investment
Nvidia's massive cash flow is being leveraged to fuel another growth engine for the company. In fiscal 2023, Nvidia recorded $3.8 billion in free cash flow, but as its graphics processing units became essential chips for AI infrastructure builders, profits and cash flow skyrocketed.
According to Macrotrends, Nvidia's free cash flow increased by 609.6% to $27.02 billion in fiscal 2024, 125.2% to $60.85 billion in fiscal 2025, and 58.8% to $96.67 billion in fiscal 2026.
Nvidia is using its vast resources to invest in companies developing photonics technology, committing at least $6.5 billion to firms like Lumintum, Coherent Corporation, Marvell Technology, Corning, and privately held Lancium.
The company's investment in Lancium, a 20% stake for $2 billion with the option to add another $1 billion if targets are met, could reap significant rewards due to the massive demand for AI computing capacity and data centers.
