Nvidia Unveils $500 Billion Plan for Chip-Backed Securities
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has introduced a plan to create chip-backed securities worth $500 billion. This move aims to fund the build-out of AI infrastructure, which is crucial for the growth of the industry.
The plan involves partnering with major Wall Street firms, including Goldman Sachs, BlackRock, and KKR, to raise capital that key stakeholders in the AI ecosystem can tap into.
According to Nvidia, this financing will be backed by graphics processing units (GPUs), which are used extensively in data centers. The company claims that GPUs are 'broadly adopted, flexible across models and workloads, fungible and transferable across customers and operators, and continuously improved through CUDA software.'
Huang's plan bears some resemblance to the concept of mortgage-backed securities (MBS), which were introduced by Ginnie Mae in 1970. However, investors may be nervous about the potential risks associated with chip-backed securities.
