NVIDIA Unveils 800 VDC Platforms with Google, Microsoft Backing for AI Factories
NVIDIA is leading the charge to deploy its first 800 VDC platforms in the second half of this year, backed by Google and Microsoft. The company's 800 VDC AI Factories aim to break past the 'power wall' by effectively cancelling AC overheads.
The push towards DC over AC power is driven by the need for more power-efficient solutions as data centers continue to outstrip electricity generation. Major companies like NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Google have invested heavily in 800 VDC or HVDC infrastructure to power their upcoming AI platforms.
NVIDIA's 800 VDC MGX racks can be integrated directly into AC platforms without major changes to existing setups. The company has also laid out its DSX reference designs for a practical path forward, enabling AI factories to transition from AC to fully native 800 VDC setups.
