Nvidia vs Cerebras: Who's Poised to Dominate the AI Chip Market?
Nvidia and Cerebras Systems are two companies at the forefront of the AI chip market. While Nvidia dominates, Cerebras offers a powerful chip that could be a game-changer. Both stocks have declined from their highs, making them potential buying opportunities.
Nvidia has been around for over 30 years and is known for its graphics processing units (GPUs). The company updates its GPUs annually and is set to release the Vera Rubin platform later this year, which will include a standalone central processing unit (CPU). This move opens up a $200 billion market to Nvidia.
Cerebras' wafer-scale engine (WSE) chip is 58 times larger than Nvidia's B200 chip and offers massive compute and memory bandwidth. Cerebras has signed key deals with OpenAI and Amazon's cloud unit, and its first-quarter revenue soared 92% to $193 million.
While Cerebras isn't yet profitable, it has potential for strong growth as the AI market is expected to reach beyond $3 trillion in the early part of the next decade. Nvidia, on the other hand, is trading at a relatively low 23x forward earnings estimates and has proven its strength over time with record earnings.
