Nvidia's $17 Billion Groq Deal Faces DOJ Antitrust Scrutiny
Nvidia's $17 billion deal with AI chip startup Groq is under scrutiny from the US Department of Justice (DOJ), which is investigating whether the company structured its licensing agreement to avoid antitrust scrutiny.
The deal, announced in December 2025, granted Nvidia a non-exclusive license to Groq's technology and hired several key executives, including founder Jonathan Ross. However, the unusual structure has raised concerns that it may have been used to circumvent government reviews typically associated with traditional mergers and acquisitions.
Nvidia spokespersons say the deal demonstrates the American system supporting innovation, entrepreneurs, and consumers, but the DOJ's investigation could result in a fine if the company is found to have mishandled the agreement.
