Nvidia's 6x MFG Lockdown Bypassed by Open-Source Community
Nvidia's decision to limit 6x Multi-Frame Generation (MFG) to its RTX 50-series cards was met with disappointment by some users, particularly those with high-end RTX 40-series cards like the RTX 4070 Ti Super. These cards are capable of impressive performance and have features like native FP8 support and 2x frame generation.
However, thanks to the efforts of the open-source community, it's now possible for users with RTX 40-series cards to access MFG capabilities. The DLSS Enabler utility, developed by Artur Graniszewski, allows users to unlock MFG in compatible DirectX 12 games through DLL swapping and Streamline integration.
The latest version of the DLSS Enabler (4.5.0.0) introduced 5x and 6x MFG capabilities, as well as Hybrid MFG, which works by simulating DLSS-G frame generation on the titles on hardware Nvidia didn't officially support. This means that users can now achieve higher frame rates without having to sacrifice native performance.
One user reported a challenging experience trying to enable 5x and 6x frame generation in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, citing a steep learning curve due to the requirement of official Streamline files. However, an alternative tool called DLSS Enabler Manager by NODIX-TECH proved to be a game-changer, offering auto-detection, one-click install, and a user-friendly interface.
