Nvidia's AI-Fueled Earnings Boost Tech Stocks Higher
Nvidia's strong earnings report and forecast for revenue growth topped analysts' estimates, driving tech stocks higher on Wall Street. The S&P 500 rose 0.7% to its all-time high set earlier this month, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 105 points or 0.2%. Nvidia's chip sales are in high demand due to artificial intelligence projects.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated that AI has reached an inflection point and is 'doing useful work' with its tokens being productive and profitable. This helped calm concerns about AI stocks, which have been under pressure recently. Another tech company, Salesforce, jumped 22.6% after reporting stronger profit than expected, citing strong demand for its AI and data products.
However, not all stocks performed well, with HP falling 2.9% despite topping analysts' expectations for profit and revenue in the latest quarter. Dollar stores could benefit from high inflation, as higher-income households may look for less expensive places to shop.
