NVIDIA's Compute Bill Soars as Athropic Locks Down $517 Billion Ahead of IPO
Athropic's massive $517 billion compute bill has left the tech industry stunned. The figure, revealed ahead of the company's IPO, is a decade-long commitment to purchase orders that flow through various cloud providers, including AWS, Azure, and Oracle Cloud.
The spend spans hyperscalers, neoclouds, and specialty providers, with Amazon and Alphabet accounting for roughly 11 GW and more than $300 billion over about 10 years. Microsoft has committed at least $30 billion for roughly 1 GW of Azure capacity, heavily NVIDIA-powered. The SpaceX/Colossus deal runs up to about $45 billion, tied to hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA GPUs.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang framed the operating backdrop on the company's August 26, 2026 earnings call: 'AI has reached its inflection point. It's doing useful work. Its tokens are productive and profitable.' The company reported Q2 FY2027 revenue at $96.22 billion, up 105.85% year over year.
