Nvidia's DLSS 5 Exclusively for RTX 50 Series, Sparks Hardware Upgrade Debate
Nvidia has unveiled details of its DLSS 5 technology at SIGGRAPH 2026, confirming that it will launch in the fall of 2026 exclusively for GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards. The new technology is positioned as a fully-fledged real-time neural rendering pipeline, allowing game developers to gain object-based control over texture and tonality parameters.
Contrary to early demonstrations, DLSS 5 runs on a single graphics card without requiring additional hardware resources. Nvidia has emphasized that the system will be supported only by the RTX 50 series, which has sparked debate among gamers and market experts regarding the need for new hardware to access neural network features.
The decision to limit support to the RTX 50 architecture has raised concerns about the cost of upgrading to the latest graphics cards. With prices already high due to current market conditions, users are expressing doubts about purchasing new hardware solely for this technology.
