Nvidia's DLSS 5 Leaks Early Through Mods, Gaming Community Divided on AI-Driven Photorealism
Nvidia's long-awaited DLSS 5 feature has leaked early through mods in various games. The AI-powered photorealism technology was initially announced in March, but it faced a wave of backlash from gamers who saw it as an 'AI slop' filter that alters the look of characters.
The leak occurred via an early access version of NBA2K27, which contained a 158MB file called DLSSNR. The community behind the RenoDX graphics mod toolkit began tinkering with the file and realized it could be used to enable or disable DLSS 5 in games like Control, The Last of Us Part II, and Elden Ring.
While some gamers are impressed by the feature's ability to add photorealism, others argue that it goes too far in altering the look of characters. Some modders have even reported frame rates dropping by 40-60% when using DLSS 5.
Nvidia has yet to comment on the leak, but the company did re-pitch the technology in July, showcasing how it can add photorealism while preserving the game developer's artistic intent.
