Nvidia's Earnings Report Looms: Past Performance Offers Limited Insight
Nvidia's upcoming earnings report on August 26, 2026 is expected to have a significant impact on its stock price. To gauge the market's expectations and potential reactions, Moomoo analyzed nine past Nvidia earnings events using options contracts.
The study focused on the performance of near-expiry ATM Calls, Puts, and Straddles in these events. A Long Call is an upside bet, while a Long Put is a downside bet. The Long Straddle, on the other hand, involves buying both options and requires a large move in either direction to break even.
The results show that Long Calls won 3 out of 9 events, while Long Puts won only 1. Unfortunately, the Long Straddle showed no wins in this sample. The study emphasizes that these findings are based on a recent history snapshot and should not be considered a reliable predictor of future performance.
It's essential to note that expected earnings moves can already be embedded in option premiums, which may affect trading decisions. Additionally, Moomoo warns about the risks associated with after-market reports, including entry and exit timing, spreads, slippage, commissions, fees, and opening execution risk.
