Nvidia's Involvement in China's 6G Market Sparks Concerns
Nvidia has been at the center of controversy in recent years due to its ties with China. However, the company's involvement in China's 6G market may be more significant than initially thought.
According to reports, Nvidia was in talks with Shenzhen Jiaxian Communications to develop 6G base stations that meet overseas market requirements. A Chinese publication claimed an Nvidia technical team visited Jiaxian in March 2026 to discuss AI radio access network (AI-RAN) technology, ultimately recommending that Jiaxian use the vendor's Aerial CUDA-Accelerated RAN platform for compute purposes.
Nvidia has since debunked these reports, stating they are 'completely baseless' and its description of activities in the region is also inaccurate. The company's involvement in China's 6G market raises concerns about its potential impact on global 6G standards and the balance of power between nations.
The development of 6G is a highly politicized issue, with countries like the US, Europe, and Japan racing to establish themselves as leaders in the field. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) has called for partner nations to align on standards for 6G networks, while granting $53 billion for AI-RAN technologies.
