Nvidia's Leaked DLSS 5 Tech Sparks Controversy Among Modding Community

Nvidia's DLSS 5 AI upscaling tech has been leaked and modders are experimenting with it on various games. Members of the RenoDX modding channel found a way to extract the DLSS 'Neural Rendering' file from an early-access build of NBA 2K27, which they then applied to Control.

The modders reported that the unofficial version of DLSS 5 impacts game performance, with one person saying it 'halves' their frames per second. The tech uses AI to bring 'photoreal lighting and materials' to game graphics in real-time, and demos showing its capabilities sparked immediate backlash when Nvidia first announced it.

Some players think the filters improve the appearance of games, but others call them 'AI slop' and say they look too much like an 'AI-enhanced' filter. The modders have successfully applied DLSS 5 to various games, including Skyrim, Cyberpunk 2077, GTA V, and Palworld.
