Nvidia's Market Cap Surges to $5.56 Trillion, Reflecting Explosive Growth in AI Infrastructure
Nvidia's market capitalization has experienced an extraordinary growth story since its inception in 1999. The company was worth around $1.5 billion in September of that year and reached a current market cap of approximately $5.56 trillion. However, the most striking increase occurred over the past year, with Nvidia adding around $1.25 trillion to $1.3 trillion in market value.
This growth is not solely due to investors assigning a higher valuation multiple to the company. The underlying business has expanded at an extraordinary speed, with Nvidia's latest fiscal quarter producing $96.2 billion in revenue, up 106% year over year. Data Center revenue reached about $89 billion, and management now expects roughly $108 billion in revenue for the next quarter.
Nvidia is no longer behaving like a pure semiconductor company. It has become a central player in the AI infrastructure boom, with its acquisition of Hugging Face for around $12.93 billion giving it a major position in open AI models, developer tools, and model distribution.
The company's valuation now represents about 8% of the S&P 500, making it large enough to move the broader US stock market. This is a significant development, as Nvidia has crossed from being a relatively modest semiconductor company to becoming one of the most valuable companies in the world.
