Nvidia's Networking Business Could Boost Market Cap by Trillions
Nvidia's dominance in the artificial intelligence (AI) boom is well-documented, thanks to its industry-leading graphics processing units (GPUs). However, another area of business has become increasingly important for the company: networking. In the fiscal 2027 first quarter, Nvidia generated a record $14.8 billion in data center networking revenue, up 199% year over year.
Networking revenue rose from $8.6 billion in its fiscal 2024 to $13 billion in its fiscal 2025 and to $31.4 billion in its fiscal 2026. As AI systems scale further and require more powerful networking infrastructure, Nvidia's opportunity in the space could become even larger.
Modern AI systems increasingly depend on high-performance networking as well as raw computing power. Training and running sophisticated models requires massive amounts of data to be moved rapidly among accelerators and data storage devices. If the network cannot keep up, communication can become a bottleneck that reduces GPU utilization and slows AI workloads.
Nvidia's NVLink technology connects GPUs inside powerful AI rack systems, while Spectrum-X Ethernet connects servers and racks across larger data centers. The company has more opportunities to sell networking and interconnect technology alongside its computing hardware as AI systems scale further.
