NVIDIA's Open Secure AI Alliance Seeks to Democratize AI Defense
NVIDIA has launched an alliance aimed at securing artificial intelligence (AI) models through open-source tools and frameworks. The Open Secure AI Alliance brings together over two dozen founding partners, including Adobe, Cisco, Cloudflare, CrowdStrike, Databricks, Dell Technologies, HPE, Hugging Face, IBM, LangChain, the Linux Foundation, Microsoft, NetApp, OpenClaw, Palantir, Palo Alto Networks, Red Hat, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Siemens, Snowflake, SpaceXAI, Thinking Machines Lab, and TrendAI. This coalition seeks to democratize AI defense capabilities by providing open-source tools that can be trusted and controlled.
The approach follows the open-source model used in modern cloud computing, financial services, telecommunications, and government services. NVIDIA argues that without adaptable models, organizations face constrained response capabilities at moments when speed matters most for business continuity.
Tim Hudson, President of OpenSSL, notes that 'open source gives you complete control over your own deployment and none whatsoever over anyone else's.' He adds that 25 years of export controls on cryptography have demonstrated that the alternative offers not control but the appearance of control, purchased with weaknesses that outlive policy by decades.
The alliance's growth strategy involves shared infrastructure development, where participating companies can capture value from shared infrastructure while maintaining differentiation through implementation. NVIDIA encourages governments and industry to invest in shared open infrastructure for AI defense, arguing that this approach mobilizes the full community of defenders rather than relying on secrecy alone for safety.
