Nvidia's Record-Breaking Earnings Spark Circular Financing Concerns

Nvidia's quarterly earnings report has sparked alarm among some experts, with physicist and AI researcher Alexander Wissner-Gross warning about circular financing. Nvidia posted a record-breaking revenue of $96.2 billion, up 106% year on year, and net income of $59.7 billion. The company also provided forward guidance of $108 billion for the next quarter.

Wissner-Gross expressed concern that a significant portion of Nvidia's demand may be artificially propped up through financial engineering, rather than genuine growth. He noted that Nvidia has been deploying billions of dollars to ensure its customers can afford to buy its products, creating a loop where the company posts record profits, deploys capital for customer financing, and then books revenue as organic growth.

Not everyone agrees with Wissner-Gross's assessment, however. AI investor Dave Blundin argued that every economy is circular by nature and that the AI economy is becoming self-sustaining in a way that makes comparisons to traditional market dynamics beside the point.
