Oconee County Sees Surge in Reckless Driving, Theft, and Vandalism
A series of incidents occurred in Oconee County over several days, showcasing a mix of reckless driving, theft, and vandalism.
On August 31, a 31-year-old woman from Eatonton was involved in a hit-and-run accident after running a red light. She had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, admitting to consuming 10 shots of Fireball, before being taken into custody on DUI and hit-and-run charges.
A day later, a van with Watkinsville First Baptist Church printed on the side was found parked in Westview Park in Monticello. Investigation revealed it had been stolen from the church three days prior.
On September 6, Deputy Tyler Ward arrested a 62-year-old man from Atlanta for theft of $50,000 worth of merchandise from various Sherwin-Williams stores. The suspect initially provided a false name but later gave his real one, revealing warrants listed under both names.
