Ohio Expands Digital ID Service to Google Wallet Users
Ohio has made its Mobile ID service available through Google Wallet, allowing residents to store their state-issued ID or driver's license on their Android devices. This move follows a similar integration with Apple Wallet over two years ago.
The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) emphasized that users should still carry their physical identification cards alongside the digital version in Google Wallet.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine hailed the innovation as part of the state's efforts to simplify access to BMV services and save time for residents. The service is free and voluntary, requiring compatible readers to decrypt and validate credentials.
