Ohio Expands Mobile ID Program to Android Users via Google Wallet

The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) has expanded its Mobile ID program to include support for Android users, allowing them to add their state ID or driver's license to Google Wallet. This digital companion can be used to verify age or identity at various businesses and venues across the state, as well as at TSA checkpoints nationwide and in Ohio's casinos.

The digital IDs are protected by personal authentication and encryption, and users have control over what data is shared when opening their Mobile ID in Google Wallet. If a device is lost or stolen, the ID can be deleted remotely through the BMV's remote data erase features.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine praised the innovation, saying 'Ohio is proud to announce this latest innovation that simplifies access to BMV services.' The Ohio BMV's registrar, Charlie Norman, added that the expansion of the Mobile ID program was a response to requests from residents for an Android solution.
