Ohio Mobile ID Now Available in Google Wallet

The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) has expanded its mobile ID service to Google Wallet, allowing Android users in the state to digitally access their driver's licenses and IDs. This move follows the introduction of Apple Wallet support for iPhone users in 2024.

Ohioans can now present their Mobile IDs as proof of age or identity at various locations across the state, including businesses, government buildings, TSA checkpoints nationwide, and Ohio casinos. The digital IDs are encrypted on the device and protected by personal authentication, allowing users to review what data is shared and delete them remotely if necessary.

According to Governor Mike DeWine, 'Ohio Mobile ID in Google Wallet is now the latest in a long line of new features that save time and make it more convenient for Ohioans to interact with the BMV.' Charlie Norman, Registrar of the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, emphasized that secure identity is foundational to their mission, adding that they have designed this program to safeguard Ohioans' privacy while providing cutting-edge convenience.

To add an Ohio driver's license or state ID to Google Wallet, users can follow the steps outlined in the BMV news release: open the Google Wallet app, select 'Add to Wallet,' choose 'ID card,' and then select 'Ohio' before following verification prompts. Those who choose to use Ohio Mobile ID are still encouraged to carry their physical ID cards.
