Onondaga Lake Conservation Corps Hosts Guided Kayaking Tour
The Onondaga Lake Conservation Corps is hosting a guided kayaking tour on August 24 to showcase the restored wildlife habitat along Ninemile Creek and Onondaga Lake. The two-mile outing, which will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., will focus on birds and other wildlife that use the lake and its shoreline.
Audubon and Parsons experts will discuss wetland restoration and the lake's role as an Important Bird Area. Participants can launch their own nonmotorized watercraft or rent a solo kayak, paddle, and life vest for $35. Rentals are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Onondaga Lake Conservation Corps was founded in 2012 to involve community volunteers in habitat restoration across the Onondaga Lake watershed. The program is now operated by the National Audubon Society with support from Honeywell, Parsons, and Anchor QEA.
