OpenAI and Meta Pursue Separate Paths in Marketing Automation
OpenAI and Meta have introduced separate tools to automate marketing tasks, taking different approaches to simplifying ad buying and campaign planning.
OpenAI launched ChatGPT Work, a workspace for marketing teams to bring together customer research, sales conversations, and campaign performance. The company also introduced ChatGPT Ads, a new advertising surface that can reach people as they explore options inside ChatGPT.
The tools support plugins connecting to platforms like HubSpot, Salesforce, Adobe, Figma, Mailchimp, Slack, Google Drive, Microsoft SharePoint, BigQuery, Airtable, monday.com, Klaviyo, and Semrush. OpenAI's own Data and Product Design plugins offer pre-built workflows for campaign analysis, creative development, and prototyping.
Meta is expanding its Advantage+ AI suite, covering creative, targeting, and budget optimization, as well as deploying a newer ad retrieval system called Andromeda. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has described a long-term vision in which advertising on Meta platforms could eventually require only a credit card and a stated business goal.
However, media buyers and marketers expect the timeline to be further off, with mixed reviews of current AI tools. Event organizers are also applying similar AI summarization tools to content distribution, including AI-generated session summaries at the Experiential Marketing Summit 2026.
