OpenAI Fires Back at Apple's Lawsuit Over AI Hardware Competition
OpenAI has pushed back against Apple's trade-secret lawsuit, arguing that the iPhone maker is using the case to make it harder for employees to leave Apple and join OpenAI as the AI company expands into consumer hardware.
In a court filing published Monday, OpenAI called Apple's lawsuit baseless and said many of the allegations stem from Apple's own employee offboarding practices. The legal fight matters beyond the disputed files because OpenAI is developing consumer devices that could eventually compete with Apple for users and talent.
Apple filed the lawsuit in the Northern District of California against OpenAI and two former Apple employees, Tang Tan and Chang Liu. Apple alleges that the pair took confidential information before joining OpenAI.
